banya-/’ba:nya/-a steam bath

Let me introduce you a typical feature of Russian lifestyle which is rooted in the past. It is banya /’ba:nya/ a steam bath, a type of sauna. There are a few versions of this word origin . According to one of them it is from the Latin word “balneum”. The other one proves its Slavonic root. Nevertheless Russian banya spread over Europe in Peter the Great times when Roman therma had been forgotten.
Those who crave for getting genuine Russian experience are welcome to visit such a place, Russian banya.
