Матрёшка - /ma-trjo-shka/- Russian doll

Matryoshka is the name of the most popular Russian souvenir. It's known in the west as Russian doll (Some mistakenly call it "babushka", but this is wrong! "Babushka" means grandmother in Russian). It is a set of painted wooden dolls of decreasing sizes one hidden inside another. The first Russian nested doll set was created in 1890 in Abramtsevo. It was painted as a Ruusian village girl. The doll was given a popular Russian name. "Matryoshka" is a derivative of the first female name "Matryona".
