4 days/3 nights: Murmansk, Lovozero

We recommend that you stay in Kola Peninsula at least 3 nights. During this tour you'll have a chance to visit  Murmansk,  get to know indigenous people of the North, make friends with a Northern reindeer and possibly experience dog sledding. We include a 2-night stay in the remote guest house on Lovozero which offers ideal opportunities for Aurora Borealis watching.


Day 1 Murmansk airport - Lovozero

12.05 pm Arrival in Murmansk  
Meeting with a local guide and a driver.


Optional visit to the husky farm (2-2,5 hours) 
During the tour you’ll a chance to play and pet friendly husky dogs and experience 3 or 6 km dog sledding.  This husky farm mainly focuses on training dogs for sport. During your tour you’ll hear a lot of interesting stories about Polar expeditions and sledding races, learn about northern sledding breeds and take lots of wonderful photos.
You'll be treated with delicious herbal tea with a pie with local berries.
 
Transfer to Lovozero. 
Upon arrival at Lovorezo village, you are dressed up for proper clothing for your snowmobile adventure. You will have a sleigh ride pulled by a snowmobile to a remote guest-house on the lake, it’ll take you about 40 min to get there.
 
After a home-made dinner you’ll have a chance to walk in the premises  and possibly watch the Northern Lights. The guest house is located in such a remote area that on a good day you may watch Aurora Borealis right from the grounds of your guest-house.
 

Day 2 Lovozero

After breakfast we recommend that you have a short walk of a very picturesque area .
 
10 am Optional cross-country skiing or winter fishing. Let us know which activity you prefer. The fishing is best in the morning while cross-country skiing is great at any time.
In both cases you’ll be escorted by a representative of the guest-house.


2 pm Home-made lunch is included
Free time, optional snowmobile driving lesson, or riding a banana boat pulled by a snowmobile.
 
Russian banya. This is a great place to try and learn about Russian banya culture.   You’ll be offered tea, taught  to make a massage using birch twigs and the most adventurous of you might have fun jumping in the snow.
 
Home-made dinner is included.
After dinner you’ll have another opportunity to watch the Northern Lights

Day 3 Lovozero- Murmansk

9 am Breakfast
After breakfast you’ll take a transfer to Lovozero village 
Meeting your driver. A stop for lunch on the way

After lunch we’ll be heading for  the  Tundra Park, owned by the Sami  family.
During the tour you will learn about most important and interesting aspects of ancient northern people lifestyle. Visiting a  house-chum, upholstered with the skins of deer inside, watching unusual shamans ceremonies, listening to the sounds of vargan, a traditional instrument of the northern peoples. making friends with a reindeer. During the tour you’ll be treated with herbal tea and a home-made pie, offered a photo session in traditional Sami clothes and taken on a  short sleigh ride of the area.


Driving to Murmansk. 
Overnight in a hotel
In the evening you might join Aurora Borealis hunting tour, which is offered only in favorable weather conditions. The tour lasts 1,5 – 4 hours. You  will be taken to places outside of the city to see the Northern Lights untarnished by light pollution. 

Day 4. Murmansk

10 am Meeting with your guide and driver.

Driving tour of Murmansk. Murmansk is one of the largest sea-ports in the world; it is also famous for its fleet of ice-breakers. You’ll stop on the top the hill and enjoy the impressive view of the city and the Barents Sea. During the tour you’ll also learn about the heroic defense of the city during the Second World War and visit several war memorials.

​Russian icebreakers fleet is based in Murmansk, including all Russian nuclear icebreakers, while Russia is the only country in the world that has them. 
An optional tour of the atomic icebreaker “Lenin”. Launched in 1957, it was the world's  first surface ship with a nuclear power plant. Icebreaker was built in the Soviet Union, first and foremost, to serve the Northern Sea Route. 

After lunch your driver will take you to the airport.
