Moscow dining

Moscow is a cosmopolitan city. Here you can find the cuisine for every taste. There're plenty of Italian, French, Asian food restaurants. We recommend you to try the local food, as it'll add a taste to your impressions of the country. "Local" doesn't necessarily mean Russian. In Moscow you can try tasty food from the Caucuses, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and other countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union.

Here're several ideas of where you can eat while in Moscow.

Budget restaurants - an ideal lunch place (a meal costs under 10 EUR)

Grabli (Russian and European food)

It's a chain of self-service restaurants scattered around Moscow. Grabli offers an excellent choice of tasty food and the prices are very reasonable (a meal costs roughly 7- 8 EUR).

Moo Moo (Russian food)

This popular self-service eatery has a rich choice of traditional food. The prices are inexpensive (expect to pay 5-8 EUR). The interior follows a Russian village theme.

Nice and reasonably-priced restaurants (a meal costs 15-50 EUR)

Korchma (Ukrainian food)

Ukrainian food is similar to Russian. Among the most traditional meals are borsch (beetroot soup) and vareniki (dumplings stuffed with potato, mushrooms, cheese, cherry). Korchma has a nice interior which looks more authentic than in Moo-moo. Big hearty meals, a dinner will cost 10-20 Eur.

Jonjoli (Gergian food)

Jonjoli offers a rich choice of Georgian dishes prepared according to old family recipes. Fragrant bread, cakes and khachapuri are baked in tandoors installed in the kitchen. You can try suluguni, meat and fish, nailed on the grill. Georgian wines, unhurried conversations and the sounds of music create the atmosphere of a real Georgian house. An average meal costs about 20-30 EUR.

The Cafe Pushkin (Splendid Russian and French)

This luxurious restaurant is an ideal place to try excellent Russian food. The café Pushkin is housed in an old mansion and its interior revives the atmosphere of the 19th century.

Shinok(Ukranian cuisine)

Restaurant is designed as a Ukrainian peasant house. In the centre of the restaurant there is a small yard with live domestic poultry and cattle: hens, a sheep, a small rabbit. The restaurant offers the best Ukranian food in Moscow: borsch, Vareniki with cherries, and buckwheat porridge, veal brains, raspberry mousse.

Central House of Writers Restaurant (Russian and European cuisine)

The elegant 100 year old mansion houses the city's most beautiful dining rooms. The interior itself is worth the visit. The Central House of Writers Restaurant offers exotic treats like Grilled Venison, Mushroom Soup served with fried mushrooms and cheese sippets or Pelmeni stuffed with smoked duck under basil sauce and ceps.

Uzbekistan (Uzbek cuisine)

Luxurious interiors of the restaurant remind of an Oriental palace. The menu includes traditional dishes of Uzbek cuisine. The lagman, pilaf and manty are especially recommended. Delicious desserts, such as fruits, jams and sweets are prepared in the restaurant's confectionary.

Godunov (old and modern Russian cuisine)
It is located in the center of Moscow in the building which was part of Zakonospassky Monastery built in 1600 during the rule of Boris Godunov. It offers homemade traditional Russian cuisine, liqueurs and honey drink. Vegetarian menu is available. Gypsy show, instrumental music or folk show daily.
