Easter festivals in Moscow 2014

20.04.2014 – 09.05.2014
This year the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Easter from 19 to 27 April. This week you will have a chance to attend  church services, listen to classic and religious music, wander around Moscow to see numerous craft markets. The festival of church choir singing  and bell ringing will give you a chance to feel the sacred atmosphere of the holiday.

The main celebrations of Easter Sunday will take place in the Christ the Savior Cathedral. It might be hard to get inside as thousands of worshippers will come to the church this day, but services will be broadcasted on big screens installed all over central Moscow.

If your tour of Moscow falls on Easter week we recommend you to walk around central Moscow to see how the Russians celebrate  the Easter holiday. Lots of events will take place on central squares and streets of Moscow (Tverskaya Square, Kuznetsky most street, Kamergersky sidestreet, Klimentovsky sidestreet, Arbat street and others). You can listen to performances of folk groups, watch puppet theatre, participate in master classes and get original Easter souvenirs. We also invite you to Moscow parks. On April 20 many Moscow parks (Sokolniki park, Hermitage garden etc) prepared concerts, games, competitions, master classes dedicated to Easter.

If you love classic music we recommend you to attend Easter festival founded by Valery Gergiev. This springtime festival features symphony, chamber, and choral music, as well as concerts of bell music.  You can check out the main events on the official website of the festival.

An especially moving element of the Festival is the bell program. Each church prepares its own program which lasts about 15 min. If you are interested your Moscow guide can bring you to one of the churches, the bell music will truly give you unique experience.
