Outdoor skatng in Moscow

01.12.2011 – 02.03.2012
Winter offers us a pleasure of outdoor skating. Why not experience this favourite Russian pastime during your tour of Moscow? Our city has lots of skating rinks; you can find them in parks, squares, inner yards or sport stadiums.  Here some ideas on where to ice-skate. But what if it's not cold enough? Many skating rinks have undergone reconstruction, so now the ice doesn't melt even if the temperature goes above 0˚ C.

Skating rink on Red Square

This is the most central one and it's very easy to find. You'll see it right in the middle of Red square in front of GUM. This skating rink is quite new; it was opened in Moscow in 2006 for the first time. You can skate here even if the temperature is above zero. This skating rink has always been very expensive, but this year it has a very good offer for December. Thus if you come here in the morning of a workday, the entrance ticket will cost you 10 rubles! You can learn more about prices and all services on the official website.

Skating on Gorky park

This is the largest skating rink in Moscow, or may be in the whole Europe. It covers the area of 15,000 square meters and it's extremely popular among Muscovites.  A large part of the park is iced, you can glide along its walkways and paths and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the place. Gorky Park was previously criticized for the pour quality of ice, but this year this skating rink undergone reconstruction. Now the ice is much better and you can come to Gorky Park even if the weather stays above-zero. But be ready that Gorky Park might be extremely crowded on week-end and Friday evening.

Hermitage Garden

It's a very picturesque park, rather small, but very romantic and cozy. Isn't it a perfect place for a date? Gliding hand in hand along its iced alleys, listening to the soft sounds of Christmas melodies you'll feel the festive atmosphere of winter garden. Hermitage garden also welcomes families with children, there's a separate rink for the little ones nearby. The ice is artificial so you can come hear regardless of the weather conditions. You can finish your evening in one of the stylish cafes nearby or in Novaya Opera theatre.

There're many more skating rinks in Moscow. At the moment not all of them are open but you can ask your Moscow tour guide and choose the best place to go.
