Winter offers us a pleasure of outdoor skating. Why not experience this favourite Russian pastime during your Moscow tour? Our city has lots of skating rinks; you can find them in parks, squares, inner yards or sport stadiums. Here some ideas on where to ice-skate. But what if it's not cold enough? Many skating rinks have undergone reconstruction, so now the ice doesn't melt even if the temperature goes above 0˚ C.
VDNH’s skating rink
Moscow's largest skating rink (20 000 square meters) with an artificial surface is located in VDNH. Apart from a big large circle it has children’s rink , love alley, hockey arena, restaurants, cafes, music and, of course, stunning lighting design. It is open every day except Monday till 13 March 2016.
Getting there: metro VDNH, then 10-15 minutes on foot. The skating rink is located on the main avenue stretching from the pavilion №1 to the pavilion №58 «Agriculture»
Working hours: Monday – closed; Tuesday-Thursday - from 11.00 to 23.00, Friday to Sunday - from 10.00 to 23.00; service break from 15.00 to 17.00

GUM Skating-rink on red Square
This artificial ice rink in the heart of Moscow offers a stunning view on the Kremlin. The area of the ice surface is 3, 000 square meters. Morning sessions are free for everyone! The skating rink is open till 29 February 2016.

Working hours: on sessions from 10.00 to 11.00, 11.30 to 12.30, 13.00 to 14.00, 14.30 to 15.30, 16.00 to 17.00, 17.30 to 18.30, 19.00 to 20.00, 20.30 to 21.30, 22.00 to 23.30
Cost: Morning sessions on weekdays from 10.00 to 14.30 are free of charge, sessions from 16.00 to 22.00 cost 400 rub. per person. Gorky Park skating rink
One of the largest rinks with artificial ice in Moscow is located in Gorky Park. Its area is 18 000 square meters. This season Gorky Park has become one of the first in the world to build in 33.000 manageable LEDs under the ice. The massive light installation composed by 400 light boxes has also been created in the centre of the rink. Next to the main Rink you can also find Children’s Ice Rink

"Ice" Rink in Sokolniki Park
Another good place for skating in all weather conditions is "Ice" rink located in Sokolniki Park at the Festival Square. It is decorated with light installation and has a large screen, a stage for DJs, in evenings it hosts parties and discos. The area of the rinks covers 5400 square meters.
