Sochi is considered to be the summer capital of Russia. It was suprising when 2014 Winter Opympic games were chosen to be in Sochi. How did it come so? What is unique in Sochi? Would you like to have a city break or extended weekend tour, Sochi is a great destination for that.Two hours by plane and you can swim in the Black sea, breath in fresh mountainous air, taste Caucasian cuisine.

Preliminary tour itinerary:

Day 1 soviet days and modern life

Start this day with a drive to mountain Akhun with a tower on top to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Black sea coastline, Caucasus mountains and the Olympic Park.
Then drive to visit Stalin’s dacha, one of a few summer residences build on the Black sea shore for the Soviet leader. You will experience the spirit and ambiance of that epoque. Original furniture and some Stalin’s belongings will tell you more about Stalin as a person. You will be surprised to see the swimmimg pool, the cinema hall ( Stalin was a cinema buff) with sofa where he used to watch films, a pool table and other interesting things.
Coffee or lunch break
Proceed to see the highlights of Sochi as a sea town which include railway station, grandiose Empire style building of the seaport, Soviet Sanatorium (Spa hotel), walk along the promenade and hear some fascinating stories of Soviet heritage and modern Sochi.
Tour duration: 6 hours

Optional tour:
Sunset Yacht cruise ( 2-3 hours) What can be a better idea is to enjoy sunset from the private yacht, have a glass of sparkling wine and take the most memorable photos! This might be a great end of this day. If you travel with kids you can also consider taking a yacht cruise to see dolphins. Morning hours are recommended in this case.

Day 2 Olympic Sochi

Today you will explore the huge territory of 2014 Olympic games which can be divided into 2clusters the Coastal l (Olympic Park) and the Mountain (Krasnaya Polyana). All sports facilities and venues mountains were built from scratch within 6 years period and made Sochi all year round resort. Besides, the Coastal Olympic cluster is the only place in the world where Grand Prix F1 Sochi track is totally integrated. At first you will drive to the mountains and if weather is good will take a gondola and a ski lift to get to Rosa Peak at the height of 2320m (alpine zone) - one of the highest viewpoints in the mountains with a unique 360-degree panoramic view.
Have a walk in Rosa Khutor along the river and have lunch in one of the cafes.
Drive to visit the Olympic Park and the Medal Plaza, Water and Light show.
Tour duration: 8-9 hours

Options to add:

1. If you are a F1 fan, the you can visit Grand Prix F1 Sochi Museum and the racing track.

2. AJ Hackett Sky park. If you would like to have an unforgettable experience and adrenaline rush, a test of strength, breathtaking views, then Sochi Sky park is for you. There you can just walk along the longest pedestrian suspension bridges or venture bungee-jump, zipline, or Sochiswing etc. These extreme activities have to be prebooked in advance for the specific slot of time.

Day 3 Jeeping to Khmelevsky lakes

Early morning pick-up by your guide-driver from your hotel. Drive to Krasnaya polyana from where upgraded SUVs will take you straight to Khmelevsky lakes ( about 1 hour), there you can breathe clean mountain air , walk through the beech forest to the stunning observation platforms to see the majestic Caucasian ridge. Then have a break and enjoy local tea and mountain honey with cookies. You are welcome to take sandwiches with you this day. Shashlyk with beverages can be arranged upon request but has to be prearranged before this trip. On the way back to the valley you will also have a stop at Keiva waterfall.

Options to add:
If you like hiking, you can take a trail ( 8 km round trip) to Zerkalnoe lake (+ 4-5 h) which will make this trip even more memorable. For well-experienced hikers, we can recommend to consider taking the trail to Achipsinsky waterfall (+8-9) which is doable in one day but better plan in two. Available from June.
This trip is available from June to November. In early May when there is still a lot of snow you can reach Kmelevsky lakes on snowmobiles. An extra cost will be charged for that. It will be a truly unique experience as very few tourists reach that area.

Day 4 Sochi flavors

Today you will start your day with the visit of the local market where you can find a lot of spices, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, homemade cheese and Caucasian sweets (try churchkhela and buy it home). Then you will drive along the coastline to Matsesta which was especially famous as tranquil resort in Soviet days. Have a stop at natural sulfur-rich springs and try its healing waters, learn about famous Soviet personalities who came to Matsesta Sanatorium, set on a grand Soviet-era estate, breath in sea air on the promenade.

Proceed to the local farm Exarkho where they grow vegetables and fruits and produce local cheese and meat. Take the tour to see its equestrian and goat-breeding complex. Kids will love to play with farm animals (rabbits, chicken, sheep and goats). Enjoy a great view of the mountains in a farm restaurant which serves organic food dishes with Italian flavor. Everything which is grown in the garden and produced form the cow and goat milk can be tasted here. Take a glass of local wine with assorted cheese plate or enjoy lunch with dishes from fresh vegetables and locally produced meat.

Follow your tour with a visit of tea plantations where the northernmost tea is grown. You will learn about local sorts of tea, see tea growing, drying and packing. Purchase local teas in the shop if needed.
Take a walk to the Zmeykosvky waterfall with a small lake through the forest trail.
