The October Revolution of 1917 has changed not only the political system in Russia but the social life and even the private life of people. The role of arts in the establishment of the new socialist country cannot be underestimated.

Melnikov’s house

We invite you to drive around Moscow and discover the masterpieces of Russian Avant-Garde Architecture of the 1920s-1930s. We’ll talk about that flourishing period of creative ideas in Russian art and we will see such world famous constructivist buildings as Melnikov’s house, the Narkomfin building, Le Corbusier’s Tsentrsouz building and others.

Many artists were eager to discover new language of arts that could describe the XX century – the century of automobiles, aircrafts and ferroconcrete constructions. Moreover, some artists believed that post-revolutionary art could not only describe the world but also change it through social-oriented architecture, design and new approaches to city-development.

Le Corbusier’s Tsentrsouz building

This tour will draw attention to how and on what philosophical, technical and even romantic and revolutionary principles the whole of the constructivism was based. There will be a possibility to see both impressive and seemingly modest constructions, which gave birth to most findings in the functionalism of the late 20th century.

Tour itinerary:

10 am Meeting with a guide and driver (Meeting place TBA)
10 am – 1 pm Driving tour around Moscow. We’ll have several stops to see such buildings as Melnikov’s house, the Narkomfin building, Le Corbusier’s Tsentrsouz building and others. The tour will finish at Melnikov's garage building (it currently accommodates Jewish museum), the driver might bring you to the metro station nearby
