Maslenitsa Festival 2017

17.02.2017 – 26.02.2017
Get ready for one of the brightest celebrations of the year – Maslenitsa Festival! Maslenitsa is a special holiday that marks the beginning of spring and symbolically sends winter off. The celebration includes skomorokhi (clowns) and colourfully clothed acrobats, gusli musicians, hot Russian pancakes and lots of games. This year’s festival is not an exception, so it is a perfect time to literally go to town.

Ploshchad Revolyutsii – «Winter kingdom» – invites you to a land of ancient Russian guards, protecting ice stronghold. Manezhnaya square – «Spring kingdom» – becomes centre of coming season, entertaining visitors with historic reenactments, music performances of folk bands, spectacular shows with ribbons and flags.   Traditional fair welcomes guests with souvenirs from every Russian corner and warming drinks. Tverskoy Boulevard is all about outdoor activities with classes on croquet, cheese races and hockey-like Kolobok competitions. Novy Arbat street turns to Book Market, offering children and adults workshops on decoration and costume design, while VDNH seduces guests with 40 kinds of pancakes, including fish, crab and marshmallow flavors. Last day of celebration will be marked with traditional burning of the Winter on Poklonnaya Gora - this year visitors will see gigantic artificial sun, surrounded by fire windmills.

Why not have fun and celebrate the approaching spring time during your Moscow tour.
