Listvyanka in winter

Located on the banks of Baikal Lake, Listvyanka is the closest destination to reach from Irkutsk.  It is considered as the gates to Baikal. The Angara river, the only river flowing from the lake, takes the source here as well as the most picturesque part of the Trans-Siberian road, the Circum-Circular railway is located not far away from this village.  It can boast of quite developped tourist infrustracture and various activities to offer such as dog-sledding and snomobiling. Listvyanka might be a great introduction to Lake Baikal.It is also the most convenient place to explore Baikal with kids.

Itinerary:
Day 1
Arrival in Irkutsk
Breakfast in the city followed by the city tour
During the sightseeing  tour ( 3 hours) you will see Znamensky convent, the oldest one in this region where some Decembrists were buried including Russian Columbus G. Shelekhov,  stroll along the Angara embankment to see the Moscow gate.
Transfer to Listvyanka village (1 hour), en route stop at Taltsy museum. It can boast of a rich collection of old wooden houses dating to 18th-19th century which can narrate you more about the life and customs of the peoples of Siberia.
Upon arrival to Listvyanka you will head to the market to enjoy local specialty fish.

Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel
Orientation tour of Listvyanka includes the visit of the observation platform over the delta of the Angara.  From there you will see  the Shaman-rock, the sacred place for shamans' rituals  which was flooded with the construction of Irkutsk Hydro-electric station.
Another site for breathtaking views over Baikal  and surrounding mountains is Chersky Rock (728m) named after geographer and explorer of Sibiria. You can get there by a chairlift.
Stop at the St. Nicolas Church- the patron saint of  all travellers.
Visit Limnological museum to learn more about flora and fauna of Lake Baikal as well as gaze at charming fresh-water seals known as "nerpa".

Options:
Dog-sledding center is a family -owned place where Baikal husky is bred and trained for dog-sledding competitions. You can visit this center to enjoy the company of friendly dogs or take a ride on a dog-sled. Various distances are offered: from a short one to multy-days.

If you are looking for other winter fun activities then a snowmobiling tour can be arranged upon request.

This tour can be customized upon request and can be the starting or the finishing point of your trip to Baikal.
