A trip to Zvenigorod

We invite you to visit Zvenigorod, a picturesque old town 30 km outside of Moscow. Zvenigorod will charm you with its lovely views of the Moscow River, steep hills, crystal-clear water springs, remarkable ancient architecture, and peaceful atmosphere. Enchanted by the landscapes, many Russian artists of the past lived and worked in Zvenigorod, giving the town the name of the Russian Barbizon.

Tour Highlights

• Visit the oldest church in the Moscow region. Built in 1399, The Assumption Cathedral is one of the few surviving stone monuments of the 14th century. And among the surviving ones, it is the most beautiful. In the 15th century, the best icon masters Andrei Rublev and Daniil Cherny created icons and frescoes for this church. The icons are now kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, but you can still find some frescoes which the same masters could have performed.
  
  
  

  The Assumption Cathedral
• Explore Savvino Storozhevskiy Monastery, founded in the late 14th century. Tsar Alexis chose the monastery as his suburban residence, and his white-stone royal palace is still in its place. Since the times of Tsar Alexis, the monastery was one of the most significant religious places in Russia. You may climb the monastery's ancient walls and take in an impressive view from above.

• An alternative active way to explore Zvenigorod is by bike. You will rent bikes in a local office. Our guide will accompany you to show you the most picturesque places in the area. The approximate length of the trip is 15 km.
