Summer music festivals in Moscow

Summer time offers us a great chance to listen to classic music in most beautiful old estates in Moscow. Numerous festivals are held throughout the summer in Kolomenskoye, Kuskovo, Tsaritsino and welcome all fans of classic and spiritual music. 

Each of the estates is not so far from the city centre. You can easily get there by metro. We recommend you to come to the concert a bit earlier, admire the architecture, walk around  the park and listen to great music. Your Moscow tour guide can tell you the history of each place. 
 

Music festivals in Kuskovo


In the 18th century Kuskovo was the summer residence of the Sheremetevs family. It was one of the first great summer country estates of the Russian nobility, it was piopular for receptions, celebration and other festivities. Today more than 20 unique monuments of architecture have survived in Kuskovo including the summer palace,  Dutch House, an Italian House, a Grotto. The estate also features the only in Moscow regular French park with Russian and Italian sculptures.


During the sunmmer time Kuskovo palace welcomes everyone who loves classic music. You can have a chance to attend the festival of Organ music which lasts until Aug 23. You can find the description of each concert on the official website of the museum (in Russian only). Below are the dates of each concert.

Another music festival in Kuskovo is called ‘Classic music in Kuskovo’, which features baroque, romantic and contemporary music played by the Russian chamber ensembles. The festival runs until September 4. The dates of concerts are :

Music festival in Tsaritsino

Tsaritsino is a landscape park and an impressive royal residence of the 18th century. It was constructed between 1775 and 1796. Tsaritsino means “Tsarina’s” (“Queen’s”). The unique architectural complex was designed for Catherine the Great.


This summer Tsaritsino hosts the festival called “Summer romance 2014”. You can learn about the festival on the museum webpage. If you like Vivaldi, Torelli, Handel and Mozart come to Tsaritsino on Sat July 5;  Sun July 6,    Sat July 12  Sun July 13, at 5 pm.
 

Festivals in Kolomenskoye


The former summer residence of the Russian tsars is one of the most picturesque sites in Moscow. Here you can see a unique ensemble of Old Russian architecture. Kolomenskoye is also one of the most ancient places in Moscow. Archaeologists discovered that people lived here long before Moscow was founded, the remains of settlements in Kolomenskoye date V-III millennium B.C.  


This summer Kolomenskoye featurers  the Summer in Kolomenskoye festival of brass band music. Every Saturday brass band music bands will play for you from 3-4 pm in front of the palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. See the description of the event. The festival runs from July 5 – Aug 23 each Saturday.

On July 10 at 6 pm the festival of Orthodox spiritual music will start in the Cathedral of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye. The church is probably one of the most amazing buildings in Moscow, it is  UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. If you admire Russian Ortodox Spiritual music come to Kolomenskoye on the following dates. One of the most interesting photo festivals opened its doors to the visitors of all ages in CHA (Tsentralny Dom Hudozhnika). The exhibition uniting more than 500 works is devoted to Russian nature.
